38 years as a collegiate head coach (34 years at NCSU)


One of only six Division I head women’s basketball coaches to reach 700 victories


Guided NCSU to 20 NCAA Tournaments, 11 Sweet Sixteen appearances, and one trip to the Elite Eight and Final Four


Coached the USA Olympic team to gold in 1988


Winner of the inaugural Jimmy V ESPY for Perseverance at the 2007 ESPY Awards


Member of the Naismith Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, among many others


Developed the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund® in 2007 which has raised nearly $2 million since its inception


Coach Yow was born on March 14, 1942 in Gibsonville, NC and passed away on January 24, 2009 after facing her third bout with breast cancer. Her memorial service, attended by over 1,400 coaches, colleagues, friends and fans, was broadcast on live television in Raleigh on January 30, 2009.
